HUMAN AND WEALTH — Episode 05: Income and Cash Flow

WEALTH GROWS WHEN HUMAN DECISIONS CREATE LASTING VALUE.

How do you turn earnings into a durable surplus?

Income supports wealth only when obligations leave a sustainable margin. The first useful question is what remains after necessary payments and recurring commitments. For a business, distinguish revenue, profit and cash available; they describe different things.

THE SIGNAL / PROBLEM

The signal is income growth accompanied by repeated cash shortages. Late receipts, irregular bills or new fixed commitments may explain the gap. Use actual transactions rather than memory.

THE SYSTEM

Record money received and paid over a consistent period. Separate recurring obligations from one-off items. Identify the largest controllable recurring leakage and choose an action you can maintain. A household cash surplus should not be labelled business free cash flow.

ONE DECISION

Create and review a monthly cash-surplus record.

TOP 3 ACTIONS

  1. Record receipts, essential payments and recurring commitments.
  2. Remove one unnecessary recurring expense or correct one avoidable delay.
  3. Review actual versus planned surplus every week.

30-DAY RESULT

A reconciled 30-day cash record and a measured change in surplus.

ILLUSTRATIVE CASE

Illustrative household: monthly receipts are €3,000 and payments are €2,850, leaving €150. Ending an unused €40 subscription raises the surplus to €190 if everything else stays the same. This is an arithmetic example, not a forecast.

REVIEW CHECK

A one-off sale can improve this month’s cash without improving recurring income. Show the difference.

ACTION CHECKLIST

Record the baseline → choose one decision → assign the three actions → record evidence → review after 30 days → remove the main chokepoint before adding features.
