Turn practical expertise into a short action guide that helps another person complete a real task.
Include when to use it, the three main actions, the checks required, and when to ask an expert for help.
WHY
Knowledge creates wider value when people can apply it reliably. A tested guide can reduce repeated explanations, help colleagues learn, and give experts more time for difficult cases.
Its value comes from successful use. Measure what improves when someone follows it.
HOW — THREE ACTIONS TODAY
- Capture ONE proven method. Ask an experienced colleague to explain a recurring problem, the signs they look for, and how they decide what to do.
- Make it easy to apply. Write one page with the starting conditions, three actions, required checks, and a clear point for expert help. Let the expert approve it.
- Test it with ONE colleague. Observe them using it on a suitable task. Record questions, errors, and time taken. Improve the guide and assign an owner to keep it current.
EXAMPLE — INDUSTRIAL GAS CUSTOMER REVIEW
An experienced account manager knows how to spot a mismatch between a customer’s consumption and delivery pattern.
Capture the review method: compare approved records, check unusual patterns with the customer, and agree ONE improvement to test.
A colleague applies the guide with the expert’s support. Technical or safety decisions remain with appropriately qualified people.
Measure: preparation time, corrections, and the result of the agreed action. Record cost savings or cash released only when verified.
