Which signals reveal weakening power?
Decline can appear first as deterioration in everyday performance: slower decisions, unreliable supply, falling cooperation or a widening gap between promises and experience. A single bad result is not a diagnosis. Compare trends and investigate the mechanism behind them.
Avoid explanations that attribute every failure to one leader, one cultural trait or one event. Political orders operate through interacting economic, military, institutional and social conditions. A useful diagnosis identifies which mechanism is currently failing and what evidence could disprove that interpretation.
Select one leading signal and one outcome measure. The leading signal should expose a problem early enough to act; the outcome should reveal whether the response worked. For a business, unresolved service failures might precede customer losses. Verify the relationship in your own data rather than assuming it.
Build a review habit that welcomes unwelcome information. Record the signal, interpretation, confidence level, decision and next review date. If the evidence changes, change the interpretation. A diagnosis that cannot be revised is a narrative rather than an operating tool. The aim is to choose a practical response while uncertainty remains.
